How
to Defeat Nightbane in World of Warcraft
by
Aaron Patterson
Nightbane is a summoned boss that is similar to the fight of
Onyxia from the pre-Burning Crusade raid dungeons. In order to
summon Nightbane, one person must have completed the quest line
of Medivas Journal. Here is how to defeat Nightbane once he is
summoned.
This fight is a two-phase fight consisting of a ground phase and
flight phase.
Positions
During the ground phase, the tank needs to tank him somewhere
along the battlements in a curve so that the width form wall to
edge is smallest. The tank should turn him so that the tail is
inside the wall as much as possible.
Ranged players should stay on one side at their maximum range
close to the edge. Melee should stand near Nightbane's tail.
A symbol should be placed over one player's head. (See reason,
below.)
The Fight
If the fight is tanked correctly, the majority of things that
Nightbane does should only effect the tank.
His ground abilities are:
· Bellowing Rage- This is a fear that can be resisted by
Fear
Ward, Will of the Forsaken, Berserker Rage, Recklessness or any
trinkets such as Insignia of the Horde.
· Cleave- This is a frontal swipe that hits for 6k on plate.
· Target Charred Earth- This creates a charred earth area
that
does 20k+ damage over 30 seconds. You must move out of this
unless you'rr the tank. Melee players must run through Nightbane
to the other side and ranged players must move out of the area.
· Distracting Ash- This reduces your chance to hit with your
abilities or spells by 30%. This can be dispelled.
· Smoldering Breath- This inflicts fire damage in front of
the
caster in a cone, doing 3700-4300 damage and 1688-1933
additional damage every 3 seconds.
· Tail Sweep- This does 450 damage and 2250 additional
damage
over time. It can be avoided as long as his till is buried in
the wall.
Every time his health goes down 25% (75%,50%,25% hp), Nightbane
goes into his flight phase. When this happens, everyone needs to
run to the symbol placed over a raid members head. Doing this
ensures that no one in the raid gets hit with Fireball Barrage.
If any player is away from the group they will get hit with
2550-3550 damage per second.
While in flight phase, Nightbane will take a deep breath and
cast Rain of Bones, which spams tons for skeletons with 18000
hp. These are non-elites and can be dealt with fast using AoE,
or Area of Effect, spells.
One person will get targeted with Smoking Blast during the
flight stage, as well. This is a Damage Over Time, or DOT, that
does 2k damage and fire damage over time. It can be dispelled,
and should be quickly, because it can stack up to 4 times.
While in his flight phase, Nightbane can be hurt by ranged
attacks. 10 seconds before he lands, everyone in the raid should
to get back to their places for the ground phase. No one should
cast any spell until the hunter uses Distracting Shot or until
the tank gets aggro, pulling Nightbane into place.
These steps should be repeated until Nightbane is dead. If you
